7th HK Macau Trophy to be run Saturday at Sha Tin

The HK$2.3 million Hong Kong Macau Trophy will be run this Saturday (6 March) at Sha Tin racecourse.
The seventh edition of the Hong Kong Macau Trophy (HK Gr.3-1400m) is programmed as Race 8, in which eight Hong Kong-trained horses will compete with six visiting runners from Macau.
Dr John C C Chan, Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, will present the trophy to the winning owner. In addition, the winning owner, trainer and jockey will each receive a silver dish.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Macau Jockey Club agreed in October 2003 to each organise one race annually, in which Hong Kong and Macau horses could compete against each other. In the first running of the two interport races in 2004, Macau-trained runners received a 17-pound reduction from their official Macau rating at time of calculation of weights. This reduction was changed to 15 pounds the following year and remains at that level. Since 2007, the Hong Kong Macau Trophy has been upgraded to HK Group 3 status.
In the past six years, Hong Kong-trained runners have won five races on home turf, but conversely Macau-based runners have claimed four of the six held at Taipa racecourse.
In tomorrow's race card, there is another feature race, the Association of Hong Kong Racing Journalists Challenge Cup (Class 1-1200m, dirt), programmed as Race 9.
