At the summit of the handicap are Syllabus and Viva Macau. The former has makes his seasonal reappearance and has won first up for the last two years at this distance of 1800m - but he could find it tougher at a career-high rating of 110.

Viva Macau, on the other hand, is the pick of a trio of John Moore runners and will relish stepping up in trip to 1800m after last month’s pipe-opener over two furlongs shorter.

“I’ve done plenty of work on him and I’ve been impressed,” jockey Darren Beadman said. “His performance in a turf barrier trial last week was very good. He really let down when I asked him to so I know I’ve got a horse in form even if he has to shoulder a big weight on Sunday.”

Mid-ranking in the weights is Ever Bright, such a star last season to return from a fractured pelvis and then win four straight races, culminating in Gr.3 glory in the Queen Mother Memorial Cup (2400m). Paul O’Sullivan is hopeful Ever Bright can develop into an international contender in December and, optimistic of a decent first showing of the campaign, he commented: “He’s the kind of horse that doesn’t do a whole lot in the mornings, so I can’t say I’m disappointed with how he’s been going of late. He has won at this distance three times so I guess it’s a good platform to start the season from and I think he’ll run well.”

「永旺財」去季上陣六次，四度奏凱，是上年度三歲馬新星之一。今仗是這匹現已轉為四歲的自購新馬首次增程至 1800米。本季首仗出戰廣東讓賽盃（第二班 1600米）時，牠在「包裝大師」一個半馬位後得第四，與季軍「一口田」叮當馬頭。「包裝大師」其後再戰以大距離優勢再捷，而「一口田」事隔十一天再跑同程也輕鬆掄元。 憑負磅最低之助，「永旺財」今仗若然在前領放，絕不為奇。

對手之中，負磅最重者是「確叻寶」與「爆炸」。前者為本季首次上陣，牠在以往兩個馬季都是一出即勝，而且路程都是千八米，不過今季想好夢重溫將有較高難度，因為牠的評分已升至本身歷來最高點的 110分。

至於「爆炸」，應為約翰摩亞此賽三匹戰馬當中主力所在。此駒已在上個月跑了一場千四米賽事開氣，今仗增程跑千八正合何尺。

「我已替『爆炸』做了很多操練工夫，馬兒給我的印象亦佳。」摩廄主帥白德民說，「上週那一課草地大閘，牠的走勢出色，一鬆韁繩即有反應。憑此勇態，週日一戰縱負重磅亦無礙！」

負中磅的「家福」，上季亦成為明星馬之一，受過骨盆骨折創傷後，居然能夠連下四城，其中級數最高的一場為三級賽皇太后紀念盃（2400米）。 蘇保羅希望「家福」能夠進軍 12 月舉行的國際賽，怎樣看待此駒季內首仗的機會？他表現得樂觀但審慎：「這匹馬屬於在晨課懂得留力一類，因此我不可以說牠近期的操練表現令我失望。牠贏過這個途程三次，以此程作為新季開步點再也適合不過，估計會有好演出。」
