Racing on the All Weather Track

This Wednesday's card (October 17th) is one of the few race meetings this season in which all races will be run on the All Weather Track (AWT).

The "axiom" Horses for Courses should be given strong consideration in your handicapping of this card. It is safe to say that some stables (trainers) are stronger on the AWT surface than others. The same can also be said about jockeys, and obviously horses.

In order to assist you in your selection process I am providing a set of Racing Statistics (XLS format) for the AWT which should help you with your analysis.
Alternatively, you can look at the PDF Versions of these charts :
AWT Stats by Stable
AWT Stats by Jockey
AWT Stats by Draw
AWT Stats by Wednesday's Races

It is woth noting that each time the AW Course is in play you will hear a recuring statement that 'US-bred horses have an advantage on the AW'. However, I can find NO statistical evidence to support this statement. After analyzing 5 years of data, horses which are bred in the US win on the AWT no more or no less than those horses bred in Australia, New Zealand, or any other country.

For additional assistance with analyzing Hong Kong Racing, try the HKRJ's SPEED MAPS (a FREE application). Using this tool you can quickly filter and focus on AWT starts only, for example, just one of the many useful features of this product.

Bio on Earl Klein

Co-founder and Racing Editor of the Hong Kong Racing Journal since it's inception in 1995. During this period I have provided consulting services regarding Hong Kong racing to both end-users and corporate clients, such as Race Tracks, Off-track Betting Services, Bookmakers & TABs, On-line information services, etc.

For almost 10 years the HKRJ provided a Custom Service to the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) which focused on a pre-race analysis report for the Chief Steward (Stipe), during the tenures of John Schreck and Jamie Stier.

A number-cruncher for my 'day job' and an enthusiastic part-time programmer with a love of horseracing, the analysis of Hong Kong Racing has been a natural fit to both my skills and hobby.

I enjoy making Hong Kong Racing a more level playing field so if you've got an opinion or a suggestion, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.
