GETTING THE MOST FROM THE HK RACING APP

The HK RACING APP (APP) (Beta) [ DOWNLOAD for FREE HERE ] has been developed for ALL levels of horse racing experience -- from the professional to the novice, everyone can benefit from this APP. It is our goal to make the HK RACING APP "the" Racing APP (in English and Chinese) for all Hong Kong Racing enthusiasts, so we appreciate your assistance in this endeavor !

The following is an overview of the HK RACING APP with some discussion of how various modules can be used. This primer is helpful for first-time users, especially because the HK RACING APP is provided in Excel© during the Beta phase.

The APP contains both STATIC information modules and DYNAMIC tables with powerful sorting and filtering options. Static Modules provide current information useful for quickly assessing a horse's, jockey's, or trainer's record. This supplemental information can be the deciding factor after your primary analysis has been completed using the Dynamic Modules.

DYNAMIC MODULES :
The following 3 dynamic modules provide very powerful analysis tools :

Speed Maps » this module can be filtered and sorted in various ways to give the user a strong indication of a horse's ability. It supplies the last 10 starts (if applicable), visually displaying a horse's running style. Using the various buttons included you can filter and sort this information as you desire.

Example : if you only want to see a horse's record for Today's Trip sorted by Finishing Order, simply sort the file using the "Finish" Button and then use the "T-Dist" Button to filter only those for Today's Distance. Excel© Filtering and Sorting Tools are available for ad-hoc comparisons beyond the "APP's Buttons" provided.

Timeline » a complete written history of each horse. This Table provides Lifetime Records for races prior to the current season, including Vet Reports where applicable. All Races, Works, Trials and other significant data will be added as the current season unfolds. You can filter the data using the "Buttons" provided and you can view only the records for a particular horse. Excel's Ad hoc filters and sorts are also available.

Race Stats » show a series of Racing Statistics which measure various racing attributes. This table is weighted to give a comparison of each horse in a race given those variables. This is a great tool for eliminating contenders.

STATIC MODULES :

Index Tab » table of contents using links to move you quickly to specific modules

Race Card » a list of the races for the Current Meet giving you the Race Name and Number, HK Ref #, Distance, Class, Handicap Range, Purse and Race Time. Also included are links to other Modules

Decs (Starters List) » shows Horse #, Horse Name, Jockey Name, Draw (Barrier/Gate), Trainer, Handicap Weight, Apprentice Claim, Pace/Close indicator, Days Since Last Raced and the Vet Report (where applicable) for the last or since raced. The Pace/Close indicator provides you with an indication of the strength of pace-setters vs. closers in the race.

Draw (Barrier) Statistics » an easy-to-read table showing the strength and weaknesses of the barriers (gates) for this particular race. The Last 3 Seasons are shown and will be updated with current races as the current season progresses.

Trainer/Jockey Combos » at a glance see the Trainer and Jockey match-ups for today's Race Card.

Trainer & Jockey Records /Stakes » a table reflecting the current season's Wins, 2nds, and 3rds with the date of the Last Win and Days Since that Win. This table also reflects purses earned to date.

Racing Calendar » details of the Racing Schedule for the current season indicating major events and details when available.

Track Info » miscellaneous information including Class, Course and Distance Records, Standard Times and Track Diagrams.

It is hoped that this information will assist you in your use of the HK RACING APP. We are happy to answer any specific questions you may have and we welcome your suggestions for ways to improve this product. If there are features you would like included in a future version of this APP, please do let us know.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Bio on Earl Klein

Co-founder and Racing Editor of the Hong Kong Racing Journal since it's inception in 1995. During this period I have provided consulting services regarding Hong Kong racing to both end-users and corporate clients, such as Race Tracks, Off-track Betting Services, Bookmakers & TABs, On-line information services, etc.

For almost 10 years the HKRJ provided a Custom Service to the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) which focused on a pre-race analysis report for the Chief Steward (Stipe), during the tenures of John Schreck and Jamie Stier.

A number-cruncher for my 'day job' and an enthusiastic part-time programmer with a love of horseracing, the analysis of Hong Kong Racing has been a natural fit to both my skills and hobby.

I enjoy making Hong Kong Racing a more level playing field so if you've got an opinion or a suggestion, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.
