HK RACING BLOG ~ Level the Playing Field

TOP SEPTEMBER TRAINERS

Welcome to the Hong Kong Racing Blog. The 2011/12 Hong Kong Racing Season commences this coming Sunday, September 11th at Sha Tin racetrack.

The first few months of each Hong Kong racing season affords a unique opportunity when assessing the racing fields. Given that all horses have not raced in 2 or more months, it is important to concentrate your analysis on those Trainers and Horses that have shown a strong ability in the past to be competitive after a "break" in racing.

Most commercially-available data does not show significant detail to properly analyze these factors. Some factors show horses which have won or placed off of a spell, but those same factors do not typically highlight a "trainers'" record. However, using the HKRJ's extensive database, we have created a chart to highlight the relevant factors to assess Trainers' performance in managing breaks in racing.

» LINK to the TRAINER CHART (PDF File)

The PDF file referenced above indicates Trainers' Records for the month of September for the past 5 racing Seasons. As the first rule of Handicapping is to eliminate horses with limited chances you can use the attached statistics to concentrate on Trainer's with positive records. You will see from this chart that a number of Trainers have been consistently weak in the 1st month of the racing season.

With this information in hand, the next step will be to review horses entered on the first day of racing. With the announcement of the Entries on Monday, September 5th, we will be look at those with both strong and weak records when racing fresh. Once the Declarations are released on Thursday September 8th, I will be going over the Card and will give my analysis of horses with Strong/Weak records when racing under these "fresh" conditions.

Bio on Earl Klein

Co-founder and Racing Editor of the Hong Kong Racing Journal since it's inception in 1995. During this period I have provided consulting services regarding Hong Kong racing to both end-users and corporate clients, such as Race Tracks, Off-track Betting Services, Bookmakers & TABs, On-line information services, etc.

For almost 10 years the HKRJ provided a Custom Service to the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) which focused on a pre-race analysis report for the Chief Steward (Stipe), during the tenures of John Schreck and Jamie Stier.

A number-cruncher for my 'day job' and an enthusiastic part-time programmer with a love of horseracing, the analysis of Hong Kong Racing has been a natural fit to both my skills and hobby.

I enjoy making Hong Kong Racing a more level playing field so if you've got an opinion or a suggestion, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.
